Established in 1987
Founded by Jim Temerty and partners as one of Canada’s first Independent Power Producer (IPPs).
Natural Gas in Ontario
We began in Ontario, Canada with biomass and gas-fired generation as a way of eliminating local forestry waste before quickly expanding efforts into Saskatchewan, Canada supporting both provinces in their transition off coal.
Expansion into Solar and Wind
We diversified our Canadian energy mix to include onshore wind and solar renewables. With a growing portfolio and an entrepreneurial mindset, we established ourselves as early movers and trusted partners a Canadian Independent Power Producer.
Natural Gas in Saskatchewan
We continued to expand our footprint in natural gas, developing new peaking and baseload facilities in Saskatchewan and became one of the largest power producers in the province.
Entry into European Offshore Wind
We entered the European offshore wind market as the first Canadian energy company through investment in the 600 MW Gemini offshore wind farm in the Netherlands – one of the largest offshore wind farms in the world at the time of its inception, and currently one of the largest offshore wind farms in the North Sea today.
Expansion through Partnerships in Europe and Asia
We expanded our European offshore wind footprint through the investment in our 332 MW Nordsee One offshore wind farm and the acquisition of the 252 MW Deutsche Bucht offshore wind farm, both in Germany’s North Sea.
We also entered the Asia-Pacific Market through a development agreement for the 1.0 GW Hai Long offshore wind project in the Taiwan Strait.
Acquisition in Colombia
In 2020, building on our experience as power generators, we entered the electricity distribution space through the acquisition of a regulated utility in Colombia, Empresa de Energía de Boyacá (EBSA).
Entry into Spain and Poland
We entered the Spanish and Polish renewables markets through the acquisition of a 540 MW operating wind/solar portfolio in Spain and established a partnership with ORLEN to jointly develop the 1.1 GW Baltic Power offshore wind farm in Poland.
Opportunity in Scotland
We were awarded two offshore wind sites by the Crown Estate Scotland and the Scottish Government, located in the Outer Hebrides off the coast of the Isle of Lewis, with a combined potential capacity of 2.3 GW.
Investment in Battery Storage
We made our first investment in battery storage, entering the Oneida project in partnership with the Six Nations Group, NRStor, Aecon and Missisaugas of the Credit Business Corporation.
Continued Expansion in Western Canada
We expanded into the Alberta renewables market through acquisition of a solar and battery energy storage portfolio.
Award-Winning Project Financing
We reached Financial Close on $16 billion non-recourse financing for the construction of our two offshore wind projects, Baltic Power (1.1 GW, Poland) and Hai Long (1.0 GW, Taiwan), and our first battery storage project, Oneida Energy Storage (250 MW / 1,000 MWh, Canada).
Focus on Project Execution
We entered the largest phase of execution in company history, commencing construction on 2.4 GW of new projects following a period of rapid growth.
Achieved First Power in Taiwan
We achieved first power at our 1.0 GW Hai Long offshore wind project, marking successful energization of the project and connection to Taiwan’s energy grid.
First Offshore Wind Turbine Installed in Polish Baltic Sea
We installed the first offshore wind turbines and the first turbine monopiles in the Polish Baltic Sea waters as part of our 1.1 GW Baltic Power offshore wind project developed in partnership with ORLEN.
Delivered Oneida Energy Storage into Operations Ahead of Schedule and Under Budget
Our joint teams delivered Oneida Energy Storage – Canada’s first battery energy storage facility – into commercial operations ahead of schedule, under budget and with zero lost time incidents in Ontario, Canada.
Commenced Construction on Jurassic BESS in Alberta, Canada
We broke ground on our second battery energy storage facility, the 80 MW / 160 MWh Jurassic BESS project in Cypress County, Alberta.
Expanded Footprint in Poland Through Battery Energy Storage Project Acquisitions
We expanded our footprint in Poland, a core European market, through the acquisition of a 100% equity interest in two BESS projects, Kamionka (100 MW / 400 MWh) and Mieczysławów (200 MW / 800 MWh), totalling 300 MW / 1.2 GWh. This investment reinforces our growing presence in Poland and reflects our commitment to supporting the country’s evolving energy needs.
